2004 In Review

It's easy to say that the most talked about thing of 2004 was the movie The Passion Of The Christ. Released to theaters on February 25th, it has grossed over $370 million just for its U.S. box office. It's the ninth-highest grossing movie. In August the compilation called Passion of the Christ: Songs released. It features songs by groups like P.O.D., Big Dismal and MXPX.

The Olympics was another huge thing in 2004. Held in Athens, the games opened on August 13th and closed on the 29th. Kutless had the chance to perform twice, at the base of the Acropolis and at the Omonia.

Some of the big releases that people went crazy for: Blindside's About A Burning Fire came out in February. That led to a spring tour with P.O.D. and then a theater tour with MeWithoutYou. Grits fans were treated to not only Dichotomy A in June, but also Dichotomy B on November 2nd. Sharing that day was also the newest from Relient K called MMHMM. 12 Stones released their sophomore album Potter's Field in August, and then tobyMac was back with Welcome To Diverse City on October 5th.

Some groups decided that 2004 was the end for them. Bleach had their farewell show at the end of August. Openers included Relient K, Holland and a one-time-only appearance by Seven Day Jesus. Sixpence None The Richer ended things, saying farewell with a best-of project. Just recently announced was the end of The Supertones, after being together for ten years that they are finished. 2005 for them means the farewell tour and Unite - their greatest hits album. Finally you've got Beloved ending after five years. Their final show is on January 14, 2005 in North Carolina.

Hawk Nelson made a name for themselves this year with their debut release of Letter To The President back in July. In September they opened for Sanctus Real on the Fight The Tide tour and then in October they were featured on the NBC show American Dreams as The Who.

Some other big tours fans were treated to in 2004: the See Spot Rock II tour with 12 Stones, Pillar, Skillet, Grits and Big Dismal. Demon Hunter spent June with Dead Poetic and Haste the Day and in August was the start of the Carried Me tour with Jeremy Camp, Sanctus Real and Seven Places.
